Deacon Jones recently had his 2010 Super Send Off event in Temecula, CA.  It was a star studded event filled with music, raffles, speeches, great memories, prizes, and a ton of fun all in honor of a great man and for a great cause.

Jones was truly a pioneer during his time, using his speed and toughness to harass quarterbacks from his defensive end position. He revolutionized that position, so much so that he's credited with the term "sack" that today defines the success of defensive linemen. His personal accolades and honors are seemingly never-ending, but perhaps it's his absence in only five games over a 14-year NFL career that best represents how Jones played the game.

The Deacon Jones Foundation and the Roosters Foundation of Orange County’s Tee Up For The Kids, Hall of Fame Golf Classic will take place on Monday, November 12 and 13, 2006, at the Coto de Caza Country Club, Orange County, California.

The Deacon Jones Foundation will again host its Super Send Off on Saturday, January 21, and Sunday, January 22, 2006 at the Fox Sports Grill in Irvine, California.

Deacon Jones loves having been part of the Fearsome Foursome and the Los Angeles Rams. For it was football that got Jones out of the sweaty fields of central Florida, away from the dead-end, segregated town of his childhood, away from poverty and hopelessness, away from despair and uselessness. Football is why Jones lives with Elizabeth, his wife, on a hilltop in Anaheim Hills, where he can look down on birds drifting lazily in the sky.

A Hall of Fame defensive end, Deacon Jones invented the term "sack" that later came to define the careers of players such as Reggie White and Michael Strahan. Jones spent 1961-71 with the Los Angeles Rams, the 1972 and '73 seasons with the San Diego Chargers and the 1974 season with the Washington Redskins before being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980. He recently bull rushed NFL.com.

His nickname when he played-when he came marauding after the quarterbacks of his day all long, slashing arms and hard, charging legs-was the Secretary of Defense and it was a name that fit him as comfortably as his arms fit around the bodies of the same, overmatched quarterbacks.

CBS: Did you ever wish you played in a different era? DJ: People always ask me about the money situation and how much I would've been worth if I played later. Hell, I couldn't be worth any more than I'm worth right now. The fact of the matter is, I moved the game along. I sit back and forever more, as long as time stands, I am registered as the guy who moved this era along. To me that's worth more money than they got in Fort Knox. Money comes and money goes, but I wanted to leave an indelible mark on this league. I want them to understand that this black man lifted the veil of ignorance from his face and he put a scar on this league. That's what I wanted to leave, and I'm going to leave that same message in my commitment to the communities in this country.
