kidsWith so many school districts being forced to suffer cut backs in elective and what are considered non-essential programs, students are being deprived of the ability to study and learn about the things they love. Classes that we once took for granted—in art, music, humanities, philosophy, and even in physical education, have been eliminated due to lack of funding, and students whose families do not have the financial means to afford private lessons for their children must deny them the ability to learn from professionals in those fields.

At the Deacon Jones Foundation we believe that artistic expression of all types is an integral part of a student’s education and offers them a way of communicating that is a valuable asset throughout their lives.

Because of the generosity of the National Football League and our corporate sponsors, the Deacon Jones Foundation will provide an educational program centered on the arts in cooperation with high schools throughout the country. Students at all levels of expertise who have an interest in art, are encouraged to apply for the program where they can learn about art and explore their individual talents. The classes are taught by accomplished teachers and will be completely funded by the Deacon Jones Foundation.

At the conclusion of the semester of learning and producing an artist portfolio that is uniquely the student’s work, artists who are a part of the Deacon Jones Foundation’s fine art initiative will evaluate the students and their works and will choose three scholarship award winners from every class, each of whom will receive a grant from the Foundation to be used to further their artistic and higher education goals.

Invest in the future of today’s youth

The Deacon Jones Foundation Young Emerging Artist & Education Program will take place after school during the school year and will last throughout a semester. The entire program is free for the participating students with $10,000 in scholarship money awarded at the end of the program to three students as selected by an artist review committee.

Students will be evaluated on their portfolio, participation in class, attitude, seriousness, and desire to continue their education.

Scholarships will be awarded at an event at the end of the program as follows:

Deacon Jones Emerging Artist Scholarship $7,500

Deacon Jones Arts & Education Scholarship $2,000

Deacon Jones Supporting Artist Scholarship $500

The program will also accept applications from teachers who wish to lead the program. An honorarium in the amount of $2,000 will be given to the selected instructor.

Total Program Cost: $20,000

Mojave High School . North Las Vegas

The Deacon Jones Foundation is delighted to announce the first Young Emerging Artists Education & Scholarship Program will take place at Mojave High School, located in North Las Vegas.

This school was once struggling to find its way, and under the direction of Principal Rael, it is now consistently raising the achievement level, giving credibility to its mantra of “Success! Nothing Less!”.

In the past three years Mojave High School has double digit gains in their graduation rate and a 20% plus growth in Math, Reading, Science, and Writing test scores.

By working with Principal Rael, the Deacon Jones Foundation will extend the curriculum to include the Young Emerging Artists Education and Scholarship Program in the fall of 2015. The Foundation is thrilled to be working with Mojave High School and to watching the students explore and expand on their artistic talents.
